NEW YORK (AP) -- For the first time in years, gadgets weren't the big "go-to" items on holiday shopping list. NPD Group reports consumer electronics sales fell from the year before as the holiday shopping season began late last month. The decline puts a damper on hopes that the sales of electronics would continue strong despite the overall weakness of the economy. Not every category within the electronics field dropped. NPD says sales of flat-panel LCD TVs and laptop computers were strong, with sales rising 8 percent in each.
