ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) -- A kidnapping suspect has been denied bail after police said he refused to let two women leave his car, including one woman who died after she tried to escape.

A judge refused bail to 36-year-old Jack Davenport on Wednesday after his third kidnapping charge since September.

Anderson County sheriff's deputies said the two women willingly got in Davenport's vehicle Monday night, but jumped out because they feared for their safety.

County deputy coroner Don McCown said 36-year-old Rebecca Kathleen Southerlin cracked her skull. McCown said Southerlin was pronounced dead Tuesday but her body was being kept on life support because she was an organ donor. The other woman wasn't injured.

Davenport's attorney, Nathaniel Roberson of Columbia, said he has not talked with his client.
