CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- A Beaufort lawyer who fled to Canada after taking more than $2 million from a client has been sentenced to more than two years in federal prison.
The Charleston Post and Courier reports 45-year-old Michael T. Jordan was sentenced Tuesday to 25 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Patrick Michael Duffy in Charleston.
Jordan fled to Canada last year before authorities realized he had wired a $2.3 million transaction to himself. He was arrested when he tried to re-enter the country and pleaded guilty earlier this year.
He had faced up to 20 years in prison.
Jordan was arrested after what authorities said was an attempt to stage his own disappearance during a boat trip south of Charleston.
