HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say surgeons will try to reattach a finger severed when a 13-year-old middle school student got his finger stuck in his locker.
Bluffton Police Chief David McAllister told The Island Packet of Hilton Head that the boy got his finger slammed in the locker door as school dismissed Monday at H.E. McCracken Middle School.
McAllister says a school police officer retrieved the finger and put it on ice to be sent with the boy to a Savannah, Ga., hospital.
Police say a second 13-year-old boy also was at the locker.
Authorities are trying to determine how the boy's finger ended up trapped by the locker door.
