Sumter fire chaplain killed in accident

Tuesday afternoon Chaplain Gene Franklin was involved in a fatal accident.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. on Black River Road.

Investigators say Franklin was on his way to visit a firefighter when his motorcylce collided with a another vehicle. The vehicle failed to yield.

Franklin was taken to Palmetto Health Richland where he died nearly an hour later. He was 64 years old.
