COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A York couple has been sent to prison after they admitted to sending packages with explosive flash power, wires and digital timers as part of a plot to get back at people who had angered them.
Federal prosecutors say 47-year-old Christopher Gilberto was sentenced to nearly nine years in prison Monday, while his wife 40-year-old Cruz de la Jesus Gilberto was sentenced to 5 1/2 years in prison.
Federal prosecutors say the return addresses on the packages had the names of people the Gilbertos had disputes with and wanted revenge against.
The FBI says none of the packages exploded. They were sent to banks, a restaurant and a home. Authorities say the couple also sent a letter threatening to set off a bomb at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
