CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) -- Clemson University is asking all employees to take five days off without pay to help deal with $25 million in state budget cuts.
University President Jim Barker said Monday he will take the furlough along with professors, coaches and other staff members. Barker said the furloughs will be staggered, starting in December through next June.
Barker also said the university is delaying construction on six buildings to save money.
Barker said it is obvious state funding for Clemson will continue to decline. He plans to lead a special panel to figure out how to make more long-term cuts and generate more money.
Barker said he also wants the state to relax regulations so Clemson can take advantage of other entrepreneurial opportunities.
