COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Veterans Affairs officials are looking into allegations that 95 documents were mishandled and dumped into a shredder bin at the VA office in Columbia.
The State newspaper reported Thursday the records were found last month as part of an agency inspector general's review of how veterans' records and claims are handled.
The newspaper says the probe found that 41 of the VA's regional offices had 500 records incorrectly slated for shredding.
Columbia VA spokesman Edward Russell would not talk about the matter. There was no immediate response from the Veterans Administration in Washington on Thursday.
