COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Incumbent Joe Wilson has held off a spirited challenge from a military veteran to win re-election to the U.S. House from South Carolina's 2nd District.

The 61-year-old Wilson defeated former Marine Capt. Rob Miller, who resigned his commission to run for office. The 34-year-old business owner's campaign focused on finding a sensible exit plan for the war in Iraq and helping veterans.

Wilson is a 30-year veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve and the Army National Guard. This will be his fourth full term.

The 2nd District stretches from the suburbs of Columbia south and west to the state's southern beaches.

Wilson won the seat in a special election in 2001 after the death of U.S. Rep. Floyd Spence.
