Bishopville Police are reaching out to the public for leads in a murder case.

Police say 81-year-old William Obermeyer was found dead in his home on Sunday, October 5.

Fire crews and police were called out to Obermeyer’s apartment by neighbors, because his apartment was on fire.

Authorities found Obermeyer’s body inside and an autopsy revealed he did not die from the fire, but rather from blunt force trauma to the head. Now, police are searching for clues.

"Of course we want to first start at who knew Mr. Obermeyer, who hung out at his residence? Who did he give rides to? And then we'll reach out from there to go forward to maybe it being a possible total stranger,” Bishopville Police Chief John Ewing said.

Ewing is asking anyone with information to call Cimestoppers at 1-888-Crime-SC.
