HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- A high school basketball coach in Jasper County has been charged with putting a fellow teacher in a headlock.

Hardeeville Assistant Police Chief Steven Murphy says 31-year-old Markeith Ford of Beaufort faces a misdemeanor charge of disrupting school. The charge comes after a female teacher reported he attacked her in her classroom.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head Island reported Friday the victim told police Ford put her in a headlock, then grabbed her arm and held her down after she tried to bite him. The woman's name was not released.

Ford was arrested Oct. 17. Jasper County school district spokesman Robert Huff said Ford has been suspended without pay.

Ford has an unlisted phone number.
