COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Aviation experts say the pilot of the Learjet that crashed while hurtling down a runway last month in South Carolina should have taken off rather than trying to stop the plane.
Veteran pilot and aviation consultant Eric Doten says the pilots should have known they wouldn't be able to safety stop after hearing a sound they thought indicated a tire failure.
The crash killed four people and injured former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and celebrity disc jockey DJ AM.
The National Transportation Safety Board says the plane was traveling 156 mph before the pilots tried to abort the takeoff and the plane crashed just before midnight Sept. 19.
A cockpit voice recorder has indicated crew members thought a tire blew before they tried to abort the takeoff.
