The funeral for the first president and charter member of the Columbia Urban League will be held Tuesday afternoon.

Services for Elliott E. Franks III, 72, will be held at Brookland Baptist Church Tuesday at 12 p.m. Burial will be in the Bush River Memorial Gardens.

Franks graduated from Morehouse College in Atlanta. He was a charter member of the Columbia Urban League and served as its executive director. He later became general manager for WOIC Radio Station, the first Black-owned radio station in South Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be be made to Brookland Baptist Foundation, Morehouse College or Spelman College.
