(AP) -- A conservative group has been given a $3 million federal grant to promote abstinence in South Carolina.

The Palmetto Family Council says it will use the five-year grant to promote abstinence clubs and spread its message of waiting to have sex until marriage on social Web sites like Facebook and MySpace.

Group president Oran Smith says the organization will raise matching funds for the grant and begin hiring employees for the new project.

The community-based abstinence education grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.
