The Aiken County Sheriff's Office has arrested a North Augusta man who led deputies on a chase Thursday night.

23-year-old Samuel J. Murer is charged with assault and battery, high and aggravated nature, failure to stop for blue lights and siren and resisting arrest.

Shortly after 9:00 p.m., an ACSO deputy was on the lookout for a pickup truck possibly involved in a hit and run in Georgia and saw Murer driving on three tires along Jefferson Davis Highway.

The subject turned onto Belevedere- Clearwater Road and sped up, ignoring the deputy's commands to stop.  Murer drove into Belevedere Ridege, where he stopped along Kershaw Drive and attempted to back into the persuing deputies.

Luckily, noone was injured.

The subject resisted efforts by deputies to place him under arrest, but was unsuccessful.  He is being held at the Aiken County Detention Center.
