ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) -- A Hartsville man was sentenced to 10 years in prison in the shooting death of his roommate at South Carolina State University.
The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reports that 23-year-old Chester Alexander Bull entered an Alford plea Wednesday. He was charged with voluntary manslaughter in the death of 22-year-old George Bishop Jr. two years ago. Under the terms of the plea, Bull does not admit wrongdoing but agrees prosecutors have enough evidence to convict him.
Bull said in court the shooting was an accident.
Investigators have said the shooting followed an altercation, and that Bishop had powder burns on his hands, indicating he tried to defend himself.
Bull will get credit for the two years he has spent in jail awaiting trial.
