CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- The former principal of a Charleston school under investigation for a sharp drop in test scores following her departure has denied cheating or asking anyone to cheat on state-standardized tests.
MiShawna Moore told The Post and Courier of Charleston on Monday she doesn't think any teachers at Sanders-Clyde Elementary tampered with students' answers on the Palmetto Achievement Challenge Tests.
Scores at the school, one of Charleston's poorest, jumped during her tenure. But results that came in after she left this spring for a job in North Carolina fell. Moore blamed the drop on district monitoring, which she said prevented encouragement, limited breaks and prohibited snacks.
Moore could not explain the high number of eraser marks that led to the monitoring.
