COLUMBIA (WACH) - The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Columbia received much needed donations Wednesday morning.
Members of the American Farm Bureau Women's Leadership Committee delivered food, money and supplies as part of the nationally recognized Food Check-Out Week.
According to the American Farm Bureau website, Farm Bureau members offer tips on how consumers can stretch their grocery dollars with healthy, nutritious food during Food Check-Out Week, which lasts until Feb. 23.
Organizers say it's a way to help, but also raise awareness and educate consumers about feeding their families healthy foods on a limited budget.
"With the rising cost of food prices, we realize that it is very important that we bring things to the Ronald McDonald House because people right now with money just so tight, a lot of times you don't get the contributions that you do need," said Betty Jackson with American Farm Bureau State Committee.
Wednesday's donations totaled just over $1,700 for the Ronald McDonald House.
The Ronald McDonald House provides a comfortable "home away from home" where families can rest, enjoy home-cooked meals, meet other families in similar situations and be near their seriously ill or injured child, regardless of their ability to pay.
