COLUMBIA (WACH) - Army soldiers coming in and out of the Columbia Metropolitan Airport will have even more space to relax before and after they take off.

The USO of Columbia unveiled its brand new recreation room for soldiers at the airport Friday morning.

The new room has games, books, pictures and other activities for the men and women in uniform.

It's the second phase of a two part project.

Another room on the top level of the airport was constructed two years ago.

The commanding general of Fort Jackson calls the new space "a home away from home."

"There are games there. There are books. There's a pictoral history of the Army at Fort Jackson, and it's fairly interactive. It's like a home away from home for these young kids," said Brigadier General Bryan T. Roberts

The USO partnered with Lowe's hardware store to make the dream come true.
