WEST COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - Protesters marched to Congressman Joe Wilson's office in West Columbia Friday morning to have thier voices heard over federal budget cuts affecting the Head Start program.

Head Start is one of the many programs losing money from the impact of sequestration. The program helps at-risk children.

Supporters say the cuts could have long term effects on children and the community.

"I'm sure there is some kind of spending that they could cut other than what would affect the children and families that need it the most," said protester Sandy Shusterman.

Kandy Roberson, a protester, says before joining Head Start her daughter was non-verbal, but thanks to the program, her girl is now a social butterfly.

"The Children are definitely our future, and we don't want to dut out on them now because then they'll cut out on us later," said  Roberson.
