COLUMBIA (WACH) – The Columbia Richland Fire Department, along with the Irmo Fire District responded to a report of smoke in an apartment at 1000 Watermark Place.  By the time fire crews arrived, several 911 calls had come in reporting smoke and “heavy fire.”

According to CFD Spokesman Brick Lewis, two people were transported by Richland County EMS for what he called “smoke related issues.”

Lewis said that seven engine companies, two ladder companies and was rescue company are on the scene, along with EMS and Columbia Police.

The cause of the blaze will be investigated after it is fully extinguished.
