COLUMBIA (WACH) -- The Capital City is gearing up for Monday's King Day at the Dome festival.

Workers were putting finishing touches at the Statehouse Sunday as part of many celebrations that will be going on to honor Martin Luther King Day. City officials are planning an all day event, starting at 8:30 a.m. at Zion Baptist Church for a prayer service.

From there, a rally march will begin and proceed to that statehouse front steps where the public will be able to see President Barack Obama's second term inauguration on multiple television sets.

The event is being hosted by the South Carolina National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the South Carolina Education Association.

State NAACP President Dr. Lonnie Randolph said they could not have done it without volunteers.

"We have a very small staff, but a very great staff of individuals in our office that help to coordinate this program," Randolph said. "A lot of us talk about the things that we do. Dr. King did more than talk about it, he lived it. And he also died for his beliefs."

The event is expected to bring thousands of people to the area.
