COLUMBIA (WACH) - Columbia police showing off a new way to track crime in the Midlands Friday.

A new interactive website called "RAIDS Online" was developed so Columbia residents can see where crime has happened, and how often the crimes are taking place.

"RAIDS" stands for Regional Analysis and Data Information Sharing.

The new website allows users to analyze crime data by day, week, or month. It also allows users to provide tips to police.

Members of the community taking part in the announcement of the website at the Columbia Police Department headquarters say they're happy about this new technology.

"This is great. Trust me. I'm 84-years-old this month, and this is the best that I've ever seen helping us stop crime. There's only two defenses against crime. one is law enforcement, and the other is the community," said Columbia resident Bill Manley.

Victim information is protected under this new program.
