RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WACH) -  The Richland County Sheriff's Department is seeking a suspect who is throwing heavy objects at vehicles in areas across Richland County.

Richland County deputies say nearly a dozen drivers have reported rocks being thrown at their cars from bridges this month.

The first incident was reported Jan. 12. Investigators say several people were taken to the hospital after a large rock struck the windshield of a car on Interstate 26.

At least eight other incidents were reported Sunday night, although no one was hurt.

Sheriff Lott said this suspect will be charged with attempted murder in connection with these senseless acts. Anyone who knows who is responsible or may be involved, and does not come forward, they too will be charged in connection with  what Lott called "these ridiculous acts."

Deputies say several drivers reported seeing the person throwing the rocks get into an older-model white pickup.

Authorities say the white pickup truck deputies are trying to locate may have some damage to the driver side. From what deputies understand, the truck may have side swiped another vehicle over the weekend and may have grey or silver paing on the driver's side of the truck.

Deputies urge auto repair shops to contact the Richland County Sheriff's Department or CrimeStoppers if they see a vehicle matching that description.
