COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH)--The Department of Health and Environmental Control is making it easier for people to start their own businesses.

DHEC, along with Governor Nikki Haley, unveiled "Permit Central" Thursday. It is a program that simplifies the process for obtaining health and environmental permits.

DHEC Director Catherine Templeton said this will help small business owners get the required documents; so they can open their doors a little faster.

"Instead of wondering who to call and what questions to ask when you try to deal with a permit, you can get online," Templeton said. "When people wake up with a dream, they wake up and say 'I want to open a restaurant.' They don't wake up and say 'I need to call DHEC'".

From there, applicants will get a phone number on who to contact to get their permit.
