BEAUFORT, S.C. (WACH / AP) -- The air show scheduled for April at the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort is being canceled due to Pentagon budget cuts.

In a brief statement released Thursday, the Marines announced the show slated for April 27-28 has been cancelled. It's the third air show in the state to be cancelled because of the federal budget cuts known as sequestration.

Around 150,000 spectators were expected to attend the show, which would have included a demonstration by the United States Naval Flight Demonstration Team, the Blue Angels.

The decision was made by officials at the Marine Corps headquarters in Washington. The cancellation was made in order to minimize the fiscal impact on vital programs, troop readiness and missions that could be affected by the automatic spending cuts known as sequestration.

The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds canceled June appearances in Myrtle Beach and at an air show at Joint Base Charleston for the same reason.
