USC publishes book of all James Dickey's poems

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The University of South Carolina is celebrating the publication of a book containing the complete poems by former professor and author James Dickey.

University spokeswoman Megan Sexton says Thursday event is scheduled for the Hollings Library on campus.

Dickey was an internationally recognized poet and novelist who is best known for his novel "Deliverance." He taught at the university as poet-in-residence and the first distinguished professor of English from 1969 until his death in 1997.

Dickey's daughter Bronwen Dickey is slated to read from the book of poems, which was edited by USC professor Ward Briggs.

The event is free and open to the public. Reservations are requested by phone to 803-576-6016 or by email to

 libdev@mailbox.sc.edu.
