NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- U.S. Sen. Tim Scott wants the students at his old high school in North Charleston to dream big.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports (http://bit.ly/15uKkYc ) that Scott told the students at Stall High School on Tuesday that he struggled in school and often was sent to the principal's office.

But he went on to a political career and now he's the first black U.S. senator from South Carolina.

Scott urged students to be careful in choosing friends and to realize their brightest days are ahead. He told the students that when they think they have done the best they can do, they should just double it.

He said one mistake he made was to have dreams in high school that were too small.
