Overnight fire claims elderly woman's life

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- An overnight fire claims the life of an elderly woman.

The blaze happened at a home in Gaston at approximately 1:40 a.m. Monday.

The Lexington County Coroner's Office says 84-year-old Helen Eaglin was trapped in the home and could not be rescued.

According to neighbors who witnessed the fire, they tried to to help extinguish the flames with a water hose.

However, the flames were too intense.

There is no word on what started the fire.
