JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (AP) -- Charleston County authorities have released the name of a woman who was shot to death on Johns Island.

The coroner's office says the victim in Saturday night's shooting was 37-year-old Melinda Ford.

The sheriff's office says 35-year-old Timothy Wright surrendered to a deputy around 1 a.m. Sunday at a park.

Wright has been charged with murder and possession of a gun during a violent crime.

Maj. James Brady says Wright is in the hospital for injuries suffered before he turned himself in to authorities. Brady says officials don't know what happened to Wright before he surrendered.
