COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Strike up the bands!

More than 400 music students are attending the University of South Carolina's 36th annual band clinic. The event begins Friday and continues through the weekend. It offers a college-like experience for wind and percussion students.

The students attend master classes with USC School of Music faculty and perform under the direction of some of the country's leading conductors.

This year's group of conductors includes Frank Ticheli of the University of Southern California and John Casagrande of George Mason University in Virginia. Other conductors expected at the clinic are John Culvahouse of Kennesaw State University in Georgia and Garland Markham of Georgia's Cobb County Schools.
