RICHLAND COUNTY (WACH) - A tip from Crimestoppers lead to the arrest of a man wanted for attempted murder.
The Richland County Sheriff's Department said department investigators stopped Ronald Watkins,39, for a traffic violation. Deputies later identified a gun used in a shooting at the Country Townes of St. Andrews at 1320 Piney Grove Road.
Sheriff Leon Lott said the previous altercation occurred on February 1, 2013 -- Watkins was at Capital Foods at 4709 Broad River Road where he purchased some items and placed them in his vehicle. Watkins went back inside the store to get the rest of his groceries when he saw the victim reaching inside his vehicle. The victim and his accomplice got into a fight with Watkins then fled the area. Sheriff Leon Lott stated that moments later as Watkins pulled up to his residence at 1320 Piney Grove Road, the victim and the unknown suspect were waiting on Watkins, assaulted him, and stole his groceries.
Lott said the victim in this case is under investigation for some other robberies, so more charges could be on the way.
Watkins was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
