RICHLAND COUNTY (WACH) --  Part of Interstate 20 is shut down after a deadly crash involving a tanker truck Tuesday evening.

The crash happened on I-20 westbound near mile marker 82.

Lance Corporal Brent Kelly with the South Carolina Highway Patrol says the truck hit the guard rail, ran off the road, hit several trees then flipped.

Trooper Kelly confirms the driver is dead but officials have not released the driver’s identity.

According to Kelly, the tanker was a propane truck but was empty at the time of the crash.

Troopers have detours set up to reroute traffic in the area.
