ELGIN, SC (WACH) - Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says a 23-year-old woman is dead after a two-vehicle collision Friday afternoon.

Watts says Brittany M. Powell was driving on Elgin Road in Elgin around 2 p.m. Friday when she collided with another vehicle less than one mile from her home.

According to Watts, Powell was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene. A 5-month-old child was buckled into a child restraint seat in the backseat of the car and survived the collision.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
