COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Researchers at the University of South Carolina Darla Moore School of Business showed a new online tool to help the state government calculate impact on tax changes on Thursday.

Dean Hildy Teegan along with researchers unveiled the South Carolina Tax Tool at the Statehouse. The demonstration showed legislative leaders how simple and useful the software is.

The tool provides a way for policy makers to estimate the impact of tax policy changes on state revenues. The tax calculator lets users adjust tax rates, bases, and exemption consistent with changes.

Teegan says. the tool can go a long way to helping the state.

"All of us are concerned with the financial and fiscal future of our state," Teegan said. "To have a common base to work from, with a tool that really takes all of the guess work out of the math behind these proposed changes," said Teegan.
