LEXINGTON, SC (WACH) - If temperatures stay low in the Midlands, February 16 is going to be a very chilly day for some brave folks going plunging for a good cause.

The Lake Murray Polar Bear Plunge benefits South Carolina Special Olympics.

Plungers must raise $50 to participate, and costumes are highly encouraged.

"It will be cold, but it's for a great cause. Surely we can sacrifice a few minutes of the chill to raise money for the Special Olympics," said Cpl. Mike Still with SC Transport Police.

Proceeds from the event will support the 21,648 Special Olypics athletes in South Carolina.
