MCCONNELLS, S.C. (AP) -- Deputies say a York County man has been arrested after he stabbed his wife with a sword that was hidden in his walking cane.

Investigators say that deputies went to 63-year-old Phillip Perry's home in McConnells around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday after getting a call from Perry's wife. She told officers her husband stabbed her in the stomach as she slept.

Deputies say they found Phillips walking down the road with blood on his clothes. He was arrested and charged with attempted murder. It wasn't known if he had a lawyer.

Perry's 42-year-old wife was taken to the hospital. Her condition has not been released.

Deputies say they were also called to the home Saturday when Perry threated to hurt himself with a knife because of problems in his marriage.
