COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Tuesday marked the 40th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, but several South Carolinians are still urging for change.

Hundreds of people came to the Statehouse Tuesday to support the Personhood Act of South Carolina Bill, which was created by Spartanburg Senator Lee Bright. The bill would make it clear that a person's constitutional right begins at fertilization.

According to organizers with "Voices of the Unborn" who hosted the rally, more than 36,000 unborn children have died by abortion in the Palmetto State.

But a new Wall Street Journal Poll Tuesday showed that seven out of 10 Americans support abortion.

Sharon Williams was one of the pro-life supporters. The 42-year-old said she had a forced abortion when she was 15,  and has regretted that decision ever since.

"They do not know," Williams said. "They have not been through some of the things that I have been through, and many of my friends, they have been through it. They do not understand the aftermath and the after effects of it, the long term effects. I am still dealing with it," said Williams.

Horry Co. Rep. Liston Barfield also introduced a bill for a new monument on the State House grounds to honor children killed by abortion.
