RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WACH) - Authorities say a Midlands mother received a text message from her babysitter apologizing for hitting her 2-year-old child. When she arrived home, she saw bruises on her toddler's face and neck.

According to Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott, 20-year-old Jeremy Strickland turned himself into the Richland County Sheriff's Department Friday morning and is charged with unlawful conduct toward a child.

Lott says Strickland was babysitting while the mother of the child was at work on Thursday. The mother took the child to the department's Region 4 headquarters after seeing the bruises and met with investigators.

Strickland was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
