CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Fire has destroyed the home of a Charleston firefighter who died with eight others in a furniture store blaze almost six years ago.

The fire destroyed the family home of Mike Benke on Monday.

Family members were able to save several mementos, including a portrait of the late firefighter and three family Bibles.

Benke and eight other firefighters were killed battling the fire at the Sofa Super Store in suburban Charleston in 2007.

The family home was heavily damaged by water and smoke but the family plans to rebuild.
