COLUMBIA (WACH)—The man believed to be connected to the August 18 disappearance of 15-year-old Gabbiee Swainson goes to trial Monday morning on federal ammunition charges.

The charge against Freddie Grant is not directly related to Gabbiee’s disappearance, but it came to light as part of the investigation after a search warrant on Grant’s Kelly Street house in Elgin was executed in an effort to locate any information about Gabbiee’s location. The federal charges were filed after the discovery of ammunition in his home.

Because of Grant’s criminal history, it is unlawful for him to posses any ammunition or weapons.

Grant’s attorney, John Delgado, attempted to suppress the warrant, saying investigators “recklessly failed to disclose" key information. Based on evidence, including information from the F.B.I. that Gabbiee’s phone was tracked to an area within 400 yards of Grant’s home, the warrant was held up by a federal judge in December, and the trial was set to move forward.

The federal judge has given the trial, which starts at 10:00 a.m., 2 days to come to completion.
