COLUMBIA (WACH) - Chick-Fil-A helping the homeless this month by teaming up with the Oliver Gospel Mission.

The Oliver Gospel Mission is an outlet for homeless men in Columbia to receive meals, shelter and spiritual direction.

Every Monday during January, Chick-Fil-A will provide food and encouragement at the Oliver Gospel Mission while local volunteers provide medical care and clothing. The meal consists of soup, a chicken sandwich, drink and a cookie.

Oliver Gospel Mission President Wayne Fields says he is very thankful for the partnership.

"It really shows that they support what we are trying to do; helping the lives of our men we are trying to transform for eternity. It means a lot to our staff because it gives our kitchen staff a break on Monday nights. We fed over 73,000 meals in 2012, and so this is an important program," said Fields.

Fields says the shelter is expected to save around $600 in food expenses this month thanks to the partnership.
