CAYCE, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities are investigating after several guns were stolen from the Cayce police chief's car.

Officers say someone broke into Chief Charles McNair's car sometime late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning while it was parked outside his home.

Cayce Department of Public Safety Lt. Jeffrey Simmons says a.40-caliber Glock handgun, a Remington 12-gauge pump action shotgun and a $600 bulletproof vest were among the items that stolen.

No arrests have been made.

Simmons says the department recommends that officers secure weapons in the trunk if they don't take them inside, but he wasn't aware of any specific policy.
