SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- A sex charge against a former Boiling Springs High School teacher has been dropped.

The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg reports that court documents show the sexual battery with a student charge against Abby McElhenny was dropped last month.

Neither the solicitor's office nor McElhenny's lawyer would talk to the newspaper about why the charge was dropped.

McElhenny was 23 when she was arrested in June 2011. Authorities at the time said she exchanged 782 text messages with a teenage male student over five days. Witnesses also told investigators they saw he pair holding hands and eating breakfast together.
