COLUMBIA (WACH) - Three South Carolina Education Lottery tickets sold for the Wednesday night drawing came within one number of winning the Powerball jackpot, which hit a record $587.5 million.

The tickets were drawn in Andrews, Florence and Rock Hill.

The Andrews ticket holder purchased PowerPlay for an extra $1, to have the $1 Match 5 prize increased to $2 million.

The three winners matched all five white ball numbers drawn.

The Rock Hill winner, Jerry Hucks, says he isn't going to quit his job, but he won't be working anymore overtime. His lottery ticket was sitting in his truck before he got off work Thursday morning and could check the numbers.

“I didn’t even have the truck door locked, and I had a $1 million ticket out there,” he told lottery officials when he arrived Thursday to collect his winnings.  “Then I can’t believe I let three or four guys at work hold my ticket and google the numbers screaming, ‘It’s a $1 million.’”

Hucks is paying off his house and will be back at work tomorrow.

Lottery officials say an unprecedented 140,000 winning tickets were sold in South Carolina, totaling $5.3 million. These winners took home anywhere from $4 up to the $2 million prize.

The Powerball winning numbers were 5,16,22,23,29 and a Powerball of 6.

Players have 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim prizes.

Tickets sold in Arizona and Missouri matched all six numbers to share the $579.9 million jackpot.
