COLUMBIA (WACH) - The community came together to give to our neighbors in need Wednesday, donating more than 1.2 million pounds of food during the Share Your Holiday food drive to benefit Harvest Hope Food Bank.

The drive-through, drop-off food drive was held in downtown Columbia at the First Baptist Church at Hampton and Marion Streets and in Lexington at the Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union on Highway 6 at Highway 378.

Donations flooded in throughout the day until 7 p.m. Wednesday, and they are still coming in online.

The goal of the campaign is to fill Harvest Hope Food Bank warehouses for the holidays and for the cold months ahead.

The food will stay in the community and go to underprivileged familes and individuals.

Share Your Holiday was the recipient of the 2000 South Carolina Broadcasters Association Community Service "Merit Award." It was recognized in 2001 as United Way's volunteer "Group Award." It was awarded the Richard M. Uray Service Project of the Year in 2002 and 2008.
