GREENWOOD, S.C. (AP) -- Laurens County authorities say they have identified a man found burned in a field in Waterloo over the weekend.

Coroner Nick Nickles says the victim was 49-year-old Eddie Medlin of Waterloo.

Officials say neighbors found the man on his back amid the flames Saturday afternoon and called police.

Sheriff's deputies found a necklace with a cross pendant around the victim's neck. The man's brother told officers the victim always wore a similar chain around his neck.

The victim's brother said the man suffered from physical disabilities, which hampered him from getting around without a leg brace, walker or crutches. They were found in his nearby camper.

Nickles says he does not know the exact cause of death, pending a toxicology test.
