NEWBERRY, S.C. (AP) -- A 42-year-old Newberry County man has been charged with killing his wife, after boaters found her beaten and stabbed body in the Broad River.
The Newberry County Sheriff's Office charged Allen Lee Koon of Prosperity with murder in the death of 42-year-old Cindy Marie Koon.
Her body was found about 12:30 p.m. Friday near Highway 213.
County Coroner Craig Newton says the fatal wound was a cut to her jugular vein.
Investigators say her husband reported her missing about 6 p.m., about the same time investigators identified her through fingerprints. Investigators then went to the home with a search warrant.
A bond hearing has not yet been set. Investigators say the couple had a history of domestic problems dating to 2007, but there were no convictions for domestic violence.
