COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Greenville County voters must return to the polls to fill a House seat vacated by the incumbent who won two elections.

The State newspaper reports that Travelers Rest Republican Tom Corbin won his bids for both a second term in the House and a move to the Senate.

Corbin was unopposed for both seats Nov. 6, after easily defeating his lone Senate primary challenger.

State law allows candidates to seek more than one office but bars dual office-holding, meaning a candidate who wins twice must select which position he wants.

The Senate opening came as a surprise. Republican Sen. Phil Shoopman unexpectedly withdrew from his re-election bid in April, after filing ended. When the state GOP reopened the race, Corbin says he couldn't pass up the opportunity.
