COLUMBIA (WACH)-Hundreds of runners tied up their shoes and showed up to Sesquicentennial State Park Sunday for a special fundraiser.
The Cardinal Newman student body hosted their third annual 5K run and walk. The event raised money for the 22nd annual Interfaith Thanksgiving dinner; which will feed more than 2,000 less fortunate people around the midlands. That dinner will be held at the Coleseum.
Last year, the event raised $4,000 for the dinner.
Volunteer Coordinator Robert Keeder said those involved are not only helping others, but also themselves.
"I think it is healthy for your sould if you are actively or spiritually involved in something greater than yourself. It makes a tremendous amount of differece to a lot of young people. Without the dinner, a lot of these good folks may not be privelaged to have a thanksgiving."
Winners of the race received plaques and cash prizes.
